Vida closes two sawmills as southern Sweden faces growing sawlog shortages

Swedish forest industry group Vida AB will permanently close its sawmills in Urshult and Orrefors after concluding that long-term log availability in southern Sweden can no longer support the company’s existing production structure. The decision affects around 75 employees directly and removes approximately 265,000–330,000 m³ of annual lumber production capacity from the Swedish market. Vida said the imbalance between sawmill capacity and access to raw material in Götaland has worsened over time, making it increasingly difficult to operate and develop all 15 of the group’s sawmills.
