The Brazilian Association of Mechanically Processed Timber Industry (ABIMCI) has reported significant impacts on the Brazilian timber sector from the 50% tariff imposed by the United States. A survey conducted with its member companies recorded approximately 4,000 layoffs between July and September. In addition 5,500 workers were placed on vacation and 1,100 under temporary layoff arrangements.
