Mercosur trade deal seen as boost for Finland’s forest industry

The European Union–Mercosur trade agreement is being welcomed by Finland’s forest sector as a meaningful step for international trade at a time of heightened geopolitical tension. Industry representatives say the deal would improve EU exporters’ competitive position in South America, especially for pulp, paper and board products. “This is a truly significant agreement for the forest sector and for international cooperation more broadly,” said Timo Tolonen, head of international trade at the Finnish Forest Industries Federation. “It signals continued trust in a rules-based global trading system at a time when that system is under pressure.”  ...
