The regional environmental authority in northern Bulgaria has sealed the particleboard production line at Kronospan’s wood-processing plant in Veliko Tarnovo, escalating a regulatory dispute over emissions despite an ongoing court challenge by the company. Employees of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) carried out the sealing on Sunday, following an earlier order issued on January 16 to suspend operations after an unannounced inspection. The inspection was prompted by numerous complaints from local residents reporting strong odours and haze in nearby residential areas.
