The European Commission may relax its carbon sink targets after acknowledging that several member states are struggling to meet their existing climate goals. According to the Finnish daily Hufvudstadsbladet (HBL), Commission President Ursula von der Leyen informed EU leaders in a letter that Brussels is working on “practical solutions” under the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) Regulation to address problems related to carbon sequestration in forests.
