Europe’s wood pallet sector caught between demand and doubt

The European wood pallet and packaging sector is entering a more difficult phase, shaped by a combination of regulatory tightening, uneven demand and persistent pressure on raw material supply. Discussions at the latest meeting of the Timber Packaging & Pallet Confederation (TIMCON) in Manchester pointed to a market where short-term visibility remains limited and longer-term structural changes are becoming harder to ignore. At the centre of the debate is the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which is expected to begin taking effect from August.
