EU forest growth exceeds harvesting levels

Forests across the European Union are growing at a faster rate than they are being harvested, according to the latest Eurostat data for 2023. In total, 23 EU member states recorded forest growth exceeding removals, confirming that harvesting levels remain below natural growth rates in most of the region. Romania recorded the largest surplus, with forest growth exceeding harvesting by 39.9 million m³, followed by Sweden (26.4 million m³) and Poland (26.3 million m³). At the other end of the scale, Estonia was the only country where removals exceeded growth, with harvesting surpassing increment ...
