Drax to phase out Canadian wood pellets and switch to US-only supply by 2027

The Drax Power Station plans to stop burning Canadian wood pellets within the next year and will switch to sourcing biomass exclusively from the United States from 2027. Located near Selby in North Yorkshire, the plant began operating as a coal-fired power station in 1974 before gradually converting to biomass from 2010 as part of the UK’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
