European pulp and paper industry welcomes signing of EU–Mercosur trade agreement, urges swift ratification

The Confederation of European Paper Industries (Cepi) has welcomed the signing of the EU–Mercosur Partnership Agreement (EMPA) and called on the European Parliament to proceed with its ratification without delay. According to Cepi, the agreement would remove long-standing tariff and non-tariff barriers and support growth for European pulp and paper producers, one of the EU manufacturing sector’s most export-oriented industries. Under the proposed agreement, tariffs would be eliminated on more than 90% of goods traded between the EU and the Mercosur countries.
