Funding for Canada’s softwood industry imminent as response to new U.S. tariffs

Financial support for Canada’s softwood lumber sector is expected to begin flowing soon, Federal Industry Minister Mélanie Joly said Wednesday in Fredericton, as the government moves to deliver on a $1.25 billion package announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney in August. Joly told the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce that the assistance will take several forms, including liquidity support for companies struggling with mounting debt and capital investment funding to sustain production and modernization.
