Demand slowdown hits Stora Enso’s Swedish operations, 60 jobs at risk at sawmill and board mill

Finnish-Swedish forest industry group Stora Enso said on Monday it had issued a layoff warning that could affect about 60 employees at its Swedish operations in Skoghall and Grums, citing weaker demand and a need to improve efficiency. The company said around 40 jobs may be cut at the Skoghall packaging board mill and about 20 at the Gruvön sawmill in Grums, where Stora Enso produces sawn and processed timber, CLT panels and pellets. “The proposed reductions are aimed at strengthening competitiveness and ensuring long-term profitability,” Stora Enso said in a statement.
