The United States has more than doubled countervailing duties on Canadian softwood lumber imports, intensifying a decades-long trade dispute and prompting swift retaliation from Ottawa. The U.S. Department of Commerce confirmed the countervailing duty rate will rise to 14.63% from 6.74%, effective immediately.
